Project ‘Bathe and Bubble’

Throwback to circa 2010, this pool was created for clients who wanted to demolish their existing home and rebuild a new property on the site.

The brief was to create a property as close as possible to carbon neutral, that was modern in looks as well as technology, including a 15m x 3m infinity edge lap pool.

The client intended the new house to be energy efficient and, being from a technology background himself, was extremely hands on. He designed the house management system that monitored all the heating and electrical plant and ensured that it was running as per the energy conscious design, which included heat derived from solar panels and a ground source heat pump system.

It’s time to think about winterising your pool.

As the cooler months approach, it's essential to properly close down your outdoor swimming pool. Here are some essential tips to get you started:

• Thoroughly clean your pool, removing debris and vacuuming to make sure the pool is clean of any dirt or algae.
• Balance pH, alkalinity, and calcium levels to prevent corrosion, scaling, or damage to the pool. Add a chlorine shock treatment to kill any lingering bacteria and prevent algae growth during winter.
• Reduce water levels below the skimmer opening to prevent water from freezing and causing damage.
• Drain water from the pump, filter, and heater to prevent freezing, which can cause cracking and damage. If possible, use a blower to remove water from the plumbing lines.
• Invest in a high-quality winter pool cover to keep debris out and protect the water from winter elements. Ensure the cover is secure, with water bags or cover clips to keep it in place.
• Check the pool periodically to ensure the cover remains intact and water levels don’t rise too high. It’s important to continue regular maintenance over the winter.

Following these steps will help protect your pool from winter damage and make reopening it in the spring much easier!
