A swimming pool with a view

The outdoor swimming pool was installed by Guncast Pools & Wellness on the roof of a luxury, 6-storey residential apartment building, overlooking the City of London. It features bespoke underwater lighting, elegant full-width entry steps at one end, and a constant depth of 1.2m. It has been built primarily for the purposes of exercising and entertaining.

Creating a bright, spacious, and relaxing environment         

Positioned above the central atrium of the building, which also forms the apartment entrance decks, the swimming pool’s glass gives a bright and spacious feel to the building. The movement of the water offers a calming ambiance. To ensure that all available light is used, the pool is tiled in gloss white tiles, to reflect light down into the atrium area.

A feat of engineering

For this particular project, Guncast was introduced after the shell and core of the building had been constructed. Although the principle of the glass floor had been confirmed, the actual design in terms of how it was to be incorporated to the existing structure, had not been designed or defined.

Guncast Engineers introduced the principle of a stainless-steel support frame and glass panels. The team was required to create a waterproof junction between the concrete structure and the stainless steel frame, and introduced a 3mm thick rubber membrane tanking system that could be electrostatically tested to detect the smallest pin hole.

Beautifully clean, clear, and sustainable

Water treatment is an important consideration for any swimming pool. The installation of a high-spec. fully automatic high output UV based disinfection system keeps the water well treated using the absolute minimum of residual chemicals. From a sustainability aspect, this also ensures any wastewater contains very little chemicals.
